Our speciality is that our designs are completely functional as insect protection, and we make them to look good. A bed canopy on its own is usually decorative only; a mosquito net on its own is usually functional only. We build both into one thing — a protective bedroom furnishing that turns your bed into the centrepiece of the room, while doing the job of a proper mosquito net every night.

The construction is what makes that possible. A net sold purely as a decorative canopy is often open at the top, has drapes that don't reach the floor, or uses a loose weave insects pass straight through — it looks the part but doesn't do the job. Ours are built the other way around: closed, reaching the floor, in a mesh fine enough to actually keep insects out — and that same construction is what gives them a full, finished drape.

So you get a romantic, tropical-feeling dream space that also does its job while you sleep — not a trade-off between the two, but the same design decision. We're an Australian business that's designed and made quality bedroom furnishings since 1995.

Cotton is what most of our customers choose, and what we'd put on our own bed. It's a natural warm white, it breathes well in humidity, it softens with age, and with proper care it lasts around ten years. It's machine washable and, in our experience over three decades, it's the fabric that performs best against midges and sandflies — something we base on customer feedback rather than laboratory testing.

Polyester is soft, sheer and see-through, with a finer 360-hole-per-square-inch mesh. It's the lightest option, the easiest to handle, and the most affordable, and it's machine washable too.

Silk is the luxury choice — pure mulberry silk, 8 momme georgette netting with 16 momme charmeuse hems. It's a decorative centrepiece first and foremost, and when properly sized, hung and sealed it will also exclude insects. Beautiful and functional isn't a compromise for us in any fabric — it's not machine washable, so it's the one to choose when the room itself is the priority.

Match the net to your bed size. We make mosquito net bed canopies sized from oversize down to standard Australian bed sizes, so the entire bed is covered, and our designs are also styled and sized for daybeds and cots.

Our Single size also comfortably covers King Single beds, so there's no separate King Single listing needed.

Our round nets cover more than one size — one fits Queen, King and daybeds; another fits Single and Double beds. When you're between sizes, go up: a net needs to hang clear of the mattress edges and reach the floor to seal properly, and a generously sized net always drapes better than one cut too close — the same fit that makes it work as protection is what makes it sit right over the bed.

There are two different ways to go, depending on your trip. For backpacking or short stays, our compact travel-style pop-up net is the practical choice — it weighs about a kilogram, sets up in seconds, packs down small, and goes straight into your luggage. Ideal wherever you can't fix to a ceiling, and every gram counts.

For longer stays in one place, or where you want deluxe, uncompromised protection, our deluxe Freestanding net (Double, Queen and King sizes) is the better fit. It's self-supporting, needs no hooks or fixings at all, and sets up in seconds — but it packs down to 74 cm x 74 cm, so it needs to travel as its own item of luggage rather than fitting inside a bag. That size isn't a compromise — it's what lets it cover a full-size bed without any installation.

If you're travelling to an area with a real mosquito-borne disease risk, we also stock long-lasting treated nets, made by another manufacturer and approved for sale in Australia — everything else we make is completely untreated.

It depends on the shape. Round nets fold flat using a figure-of-eight technique for the spring hoop — full step-by-step instructions are on the round net page. Freestanding pop-up nets use a different, unique pack-down method, covered on the freestanding page. Box nets don't fold at all — they're taken down and hung again, and the method depends on whether yours is ceiling-hung or attached to a four-poster frame, covered on the box net page.

Cotton and polyester nets are machine washable. Use a gentle cold cycle and dry in the shade.

Cotton netting is a woven product that stretches and shrinks when washed. Loss of shape and length can usually be recovered by pulling and stretching the netting gently while it's still damp. Washed in cold water, cotton netting may shrink in height by around 5%; washed in hot water, it can shrink by over 10%. The one firm rule is never to tumble dry it — heat shrinks cotton permanently and no amount of stretching brings it back.

Silk is the exception. It's a delicate decorative fabric and is not machine washable — hand wash gently or have it dry cleaned.

A cotton net lasts around ten years with proper care. The weave is built to survive years of washing, the occasional snag, and the occasional cat.

Our resort clients are the real test — they hang our nets in guest rooms used every night of the year, in humid tropical conditions, washed constantly.

That's the difference between a net built to a price and a net built to last. Ours are built as protection first, which is exactly why they hold their looks for years too — a cheap net rarely survives a season, and it rarely looked like much to begin with either.

We're Australian owned and operated, based at Lillian Rock in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, and our office runs on solar power. Frank and Bronwyn Taylor still run it.

We make a specific design sized for standard Australian cots and bassinets, complete with a clamp-on metal frame that's simple to fit. The net is large enough to drape well clear of the sides, so no part of it can rest on the baby or be pulled into the cot.

Ours is untreated. There's no insecticide, no permethrin and no chemical finish of any kind on our polyester cot net, and we recommend tucking any excess netting under the cot's legs so the drapes stay well clear of the baby. It's made from soft, sheer, see-through polyester — so you can see in, and they can see out.

As with anything in a nursery, secure the net well above the cot, keep cords short and out of reach, and check the fit before use.
