Insect Repellent – That Works and is Deet Free!

The insect repellent market has been dominated by products containing DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), but because of increased awareness of the downsides (melting of plastics and toxicity), consumers are now looking for proven and safe alternatives.

Protect Picaridin is just that. It’s the most effective alternative to Deet available and is recommended by the World Health Organisation as repellent of choice for insect bite prevention. Picaridin is gentle on the skin, non-greasy, pleasant smelling and it won’t melt plastics!

This is a great product, something that we use personally and fully recommend. The Australian Army Malaria Institute conducted a comparative evaluation of repellents containing either Picaridin or Deet against pest and vector mosquitoes at Cowley Beach Training Area in April–May 2001. In night time tests, 19.2% picaridin provided greater than 95% protection for at least nine hours.

Picaridin repellents at 20% concentration provide protection against Aedes, Culex and Anopheles mosquito species as well as sandflies, midges, black fly and ticks.
